Gun safety group wants background checks on ballot in 2021

“We've decided that, for a variety of reasons, we believe moving forward with 2021 as our goal will put us in the best position to close the current loopholes in Ohio's laws and save lives,” a spokesman said.

COLUMBUS — Ohioans for Gun Safety, a grassroots campaign to close the loopholes in Ohio's background check law, will submit signatures to put background checks in front of legislators in 2020, with the goal of being on the ballot in 2021.

"We've said from the beginning that we were going to put common sense background checks on the ballot as soon as 2020 but no later than 2021,” Dennis Willard, spokesman for Ohioans for Gun Safety, said in a news release.

“We've decided that, for a variety of reasons, we believe moving forward with 2021 as our goal will put us in the best position to close the current loopholes in Ohio's laws and save lives," Willard said.
