MVHS program to explore Christmas during World War I
YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning Valley Historical Society will present “A World War 1 Christmas: The 1914 Christmas Truce” as part of its Bites and Bits of History lunchtime program at noon Thursday at Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St.
The free program, presented by George Johnson, an avid collector of vintage and antique Christmas items, will be presented in images and videos about Christmas in the World War I trenches. The presentation will emphasize the spontaneous Christmas Truce of 1914, when for one day the guns of war fell silent.
Accompanying the presentation will be a display of artifacts from the war that show how Christmas was impacted by the war and how the conflict was affected by Christmas.
