Here are some of the events happening around the Mahoning Valley this weekend. For more events, check out our events calendar and sign up here for our Weekend Matters newsletter.

NILES — Eastwood Field in Niles will be the site of a $10,000 50/50 giveaway tonight during the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ game against the West Virginia Black Bears at 7:05 p.m.

The promotion will guarantee one fan a minimum prize of $5,000. Charity partners Shepherd of the Valley Foundation and The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley will each receive a minimum donation of $2,500. 

Tickets for the giveaway will be sold for $2 each and will be available when gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets will be available through the fifth inning. 

A winner will be drawn in the seventh inning and must be present to win the prize. Should the game be officially canceled, the drawing will roll over to Saturday's Scrappers game.

The game will feature postgame fireworks and an appearance by the Zooperstars

The Scrappers are in the middle of a six-game home stand. They'll face the Black Bears again at 7:05 p.m. Saturday and 4:05 p.m. Sunday.

The Vindys to perform at Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre

YOUNGSTOWN — Local band The Vindys will perform at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre, 201 S. Phelps St., at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Vindys, featuring Jackie Popovec (vocals, guitar), John Anthony (guitar, vocals), Ed Davis (drums, vocals), Rick Deak (guitar, vocals) and Matt Jackson (bass), blend pop, jazz and rock to create a unique sound.

In 2019, the band recorded a live album at Westside Bowl in Youngstown.

Stomp, stomp, clap! Tribute to Queen at River Rock at the Amp

WARREN — Queen Nation and No Funk No Justice will perform Saturday at River Rock at the Amp, 321 Mahoning Ave. NW.

At 8:30 p.m., Queen Nation will pay tribute to Queen with performances of hits such as "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "You’re My Best Friend" and "Another One Bites the Dust."

Opening the show at 5:30 p.m. will be Youngstown's No Funk No Justice, an eight-piece dance band.

Reservations due Monday for Literary Society event

POLAND — The Literary Society of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will host its annual Ladies in Little Black Dresses for Literacy fundraising event at 6 p.m. Aug. 5 at The Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road.

Tickets are $45, and reservations are due by Monday. Click here for the reservation form.

The event, which benefits the library’s Carol A. Bacon Literary Society Fund and the Martha Muransky Children’s Literacy Fund, will include appetizers, summer fare and a glass of wine, cash bar and raffles. Musical entertainment will be provided by J & J Jazz.

Attendees can bring a book to swap with other attendees. They can also donate gently used and brand new children’s books.
