WEEKEND MATTERS: Rotary’s Beerfest will be at Stambaugh

YOUNGSTOWN — The Rotary Club of Youngstown's third annual Groundhog Craft Beerfest will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.

Tickets cost $40 for general admission and $60 for VIP tickets are $60 plus a $5 service fee. Call 330-259-0555 or click here.

The event will feature live entertainment, an assortment of food trucks and craft beers from the region.

Atomic Punks, Weber to play Warren

WARREN — Atomic Punks and The Michael Weber Show will perform Saturday at the River Rock at the Amp.

Centered around 22-year-old guitar phenom Michael Weber, his band will perform at 5:30 p.m.

Then at 8:30 p.m., Atomic Punks will stage a tribute to Van Halen.

Tickets cost $8 with children 12 and younger free with an adult.

Clergy, leaders plan Prayer Walk Sunday

YOUNGSTOWN — United Clergy and Community Leaders of Greater Youngstown are planning a "Stop the Violence" Prayer Walk Sunday.

The Prayer Walk will begin at 2 p.m. at the corner of Glenwood and Sherwood avenues. Participants can gather at 1:30 p.m. at the old Bottom Dollar Store parking lot, 2649 Glenwood Ave.

According to a news release, the purpose of the Prayer Walk is to "walk and pray in solidarity to stop the violence and pursue peace. We will be praying for peace for our city and against the violence that has infected our neighborhoods."

Greenwood to host Corvette & Classic Car Show

HUBBARD — Greenwood's Hubbard Chevrolet, in conjunction with the Shenango Valley Corvette Club, will host the 15th annual Corvette & Classic Car Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

In addition to recognizing the Top 15 Corvettes and Top 15 Classic Cars, a Best in Show for each category will be chosen at the dealership at 2635 N. Main St.

The entrance fee for cars is $10 and all proceeds will go to local charities. Spectators attend for free.

The event will take place rain or shine. Food vendors will be present.

Youngstown Harley-Davidson set for reopening party

AUSTINTOWN — Youngstown Harley Davidson has scheduled a two-day party this weekend to celebrate its reopening.

Saturday's events will include a Quarter Million Dollar Bike Giveaway and Thunderstruck After Party. Thirteen people will be chosen at 2 p.m. for a chance to win a new motorcycle.

Sunday's festivities will be highlighted by a giant bike show featuring 330 motorcycle enthusiasts from noon to 4 p.m.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with the help of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber launches the weekend at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Vendors include Parkers Family Concessions, The Alternative Food Truck, Roll Er' Up Creamery, Biker Bites, BBQ and indoor and outdoor beer bars from The Biker Brewhouse.

Captains Mast will perform Sunday at 1 p.m.

Deadline near for Lit Youngstown workshop

YOUNGSTOWN — Lit Youngstown is offering the Start Publishing Your Short Works workshop is for previously unpublished teen and adult writers and artists interested in publishing short poetry, prose, photographs, paintings, comics and other creative pieces.

The workshop is open to adults and teens and will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The registration deadline is Saturday.

McKayla Anne Rockwell, who attends and teaches at Youngstown State University, will lead the workshop. She has several short publications and ample experience working with Youngstown-based literary journals, including Volney Road Review and Jenny Magazine.

Lit Youngstown is a literary arts non-profit with programs for writers, readers, and storytellers.

JCC offers Family Nights, volleyball tourney canceled

YOUNGSTOWN -— The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown will kick off its Family Nights series tonight at the Logan Campus, 3245 Logan Way.



Family Night participants will enjoy crafts and kid-friendly activities, then relax in the pool and watch a movie on a big screen.

Activities begin at 7:15 p.m. and the movies start at 8 p.m.

"Frozen" will be shown tonight and "Moana" will be shown Aug. 6.

At tonight's screening, Elsa from "Frozen" will make an appearance.



The cost is $5 for non-members. JCC members are admitted free.

YMCA Summer Challenge begins Monday

YOUNGSTOWN — The YMCA's free three-week Summer Out Loud Family Challenge begins Monday.

Opt-in to the Challenge today by texting "SUMMER" to 877-799-6220.

After registering, participants will visit the Davis Family YMCA or the Central YMCA location to pick up their Summer Out Loud passport filled with creative ideas and activities to do together with their family this July.

Participation in the Summer Out Loud Challenge also earns participants a one-day Family Guest Pass to enjoy at either the Davis Family YMCA in Boardman or the Central YMCA in Youngstown.

To be eligible for the national grand prize, a family vacation (up to $5,000 value) or a local grand prize, a one-year YMCA of Youngstown family membership, participants must opt-in to the Challenge and complete and return the passport to their local Y by Aug. 4. The grand prize winner will be announced Aug. 13.

"Kids and parents are eager to get out of the house and enjoy some of their most cherished summertime traditions and activities, said Tom Gacse, YMCA of Youngstown President and CEO in a news release.
