Severe thunderstorms, high winds projected today in the Mahoning Valley
According to meteorologists and the Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency, severe weather is likely Wednesday in the Mahoning Valley area.
No warnings or watches have been issued as of 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The Weather Channel and the National Weather Service project high winds, thunderstorms, and somewhere between a 40-50% chance of rain starting this afternoon.
Some storms might be severe, with temperatures at a high of 80 degrees and a low of 50.
Expect rain and thunderstorms Wednesday evening as temperatures drop and the likelihood for storms is more significant at 80-90% chance, according to the National Weather Service.
They’re projecting the rain to last throughout the night and into the early morning.
Downed trees, power lines
High winds have brought trees and power transmission lines toppling.
What do you do if you encounter a power line on the ground?
First, the Electrical Safety Foundation recommends staying as far away from the line as possible because any ground around power lines may be energized up to 35 feet away.
Do not attempt to move a downed power line or drive over it.
