Gelato shop officially opens at Penguin City Beer
A young entrepreneur who founded a gelato company called Papa Gelateria has opened his third shop, this one in Youngstown’s Penguin City Beer.

Alexander Papa is the owner of the multi-location gelato company originally founded in New Castle, Penn.
Papa opened the Papa Gelateria location Wednesday alongside Penguin City Beer part-owner Aspasia Lyras-Bernacki and the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber.
Through the partnership signed on April 14 with Lyras-Bernacki, Papa Gelateria will sell 10 gelato flavors in various sizes.
Papa’s gelato is available for purchase inside the brewery, located at 460 East Federal Street in Youngstown, during the brewery’s regular hours of business.
During the week, Penguin City is open Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m., then on Friday and Saturday from noon until midnight. They’re closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Meet the owner: Alexander Papa
Along with owning a multi-location company, Papa is currently a senior at Youngstown State University studying history and political science.
He’s the vice president of public relations for YSU Student Government, and president of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
Papa opened his first shop in June of 2019, when he was 17 years old, then expanded in May of 2021 to nearby New Wilmington, Penn.
In the winter of 2022, Alex partnered with Bakluva Bakery in New Wilmington to expand the New Wilmington shop under their management, then pursued a third gelato shop location in Youngstown.
He currently employs eight people at the shop inside Penguin City Brewery.
