100 seniors receive nursing degrees, medallions at YSU graduation ceremony
Youngstown State University celebrates its graduates this month.
First, YSU held a commemorative medallion ceremony for the senior students receiving Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing.
There were 100 graduating seniors honored during the Nursing Medallion ceremony this year, held at 6 p.m. Thursday in Beeghly Center.
The medallion, created by Wendall August Forge, is a symbol of welcoming the newly graduated nurses into the profession.
Graduating nurses have been honored at the ceremony since 2009.
The ceremony also kicks off National Nurses Week, commemorating Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Nighingale is know as the founder of modern-day nursing.
Visit the YSU Centofanti School of Nursing Facebook page for a full listing of events for National Nurses Week.

Commencement will be held rain or shine, and attendees should come dressed for the weather.
Tickets are not required. The ceremony will also be live streamed on the YSU YouTube channel.
