The suspect Youngstown police believe is responsible for the shooting death of a 13-year-old girl was arraigned yesterday.

Shamara Green, 29, appeared in court virtually to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Monday, facing two separate charges of felonious assault and murder.

Shamara Green faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted of the murder charge

On May 19, Green was arrested for suspected involvement in the shooting death of London Jones.

According to reports, Jones, a 13-year-old girl, was attending the same block party as Green over on the city’s south side, standing on a sidewalk when shots were fired nearby, killing her.

According to Youngstown municipal court records, Green is facing one count of murder with a minimum sentence of fifteen years to life in prison.

After being arraigned yesterday, Green was transported back to Mahoning County Jail.

The next court appearance is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. May 26 in the courtroom of Judge Carla Baldwin in Youngstown.

According to jail records, there is a combined bond in the total amount of $1 million for the two charges.

What police said led to London Jones’ death?

Police said the shooting happened just after midnight when a fight occurred before shots were fired, after the curfew in the city for minors.

“The fight was amongst adults,” Youngstown Police Detective Mohamad Awad said at a press conference last week. “The disagreement led to a melee in the streets. The victim was innocent, but we must ask why a 13-year-old was out at this hour?”

Police recovered eight casings from the scene and interviewed witnesses at the party.
