Tattooing couple creates new tattoo, piercing business in Warren
Meet Dominic Rossi and Shelby Gossick, the co-owners of one of the Mahoning Valley’s newest business: Artistic Anatomy at 3050 Elm Road NE in Warren.
The couple started tattooing at Blackwater Ink Tattoo Studio with Johnathon Perkins in Niles before setting out to start their own business.
Rossi said Perkins helped him and Gossick find success as entrepreneurs.
“He set these stones in place for us to be able to do this on our own,” said Rossi. “We put the time in, we worked hard and we built up nice clientele. We realized that we could be doing this ourselves and reaping all the benefits that we could possibly need to get us further in life. So we did.”
When they found the spot on Elm Road in Warren for Artistic Anatomy, Rossi said he initially had some doubts about the location, which have been put to rest.
“When we were out at Blackwater Ink on 422, I thought that was a really good location,” he said. “So coming here, at first I thought, ‘I don’t know about the spot,’ but actually, turns out that we are much closer to a lot of our clients. There’s a whole lot of traffic coming through here, and that’s all we’ve heard, is how prime our location is, actually.”
The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber helped Rossi and Gossick cut the ribbon on the new shop on Monday.
Visit the tattoo shop from 1 - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; they’re closed Sunday and Monday.
“Our clientele are phenomenal. We love everybody who shops with us, and we just try to give them the best service that we can,” he said. “We try to make sure that we take good care of people leading up to the stabbing part too, and then also when they leave.”
In addition to tattoos and piercings, they also stock the shop with Narcan and fentanyl test strips available to anyone who needs it, no questions asked.
“Client, or not, we value the safety and life of each and every one of you and we can’t stress how important it is to be prepared for anything to happen,” Rossi wrote. “Even if you’re not an active user, or know one, having narcan on you can be the difference between life or death. We are so happy to work with McCleary Recovery to supply these products to you.”
Here’s Rossi’s advice for other couples who want to work well together while still maintaining their relationship:
“Make sure that you prioritize your home life and understand that work time isn’t spending time together,” Rossi said. “I could say, ‘No, I don’t want to go do anything this weekend, we spent the whole week together.’ No, we did not. We did not spend quality time; we were at work.”
“And as long as you do your best to make sure that nobody feels like they are just a work spouse or like, Oh, this is my work girlfriend, this is my work boyfriend because I feel like without giving enough care to your relationship, then it could easily feel like that, and with us both being conscious of that, it seems to mesh and work really well,” he added.
