Canfield Italian eatery introducing Youngstown-inspired pizza for family dinner experience
The Risi family started selling pizzas straight from an oven at their home, then operating a mobile pizza bar and now their first brick-and-mortar store in Canfield.
Joe and Amy Risi, Risi Pizzeria & Italian Cuisine’s owners, moved operations to the former Napa Grocery.
The family-owned business has been open since March, welcoming guests for dinner parties with pizza, pasta, charcuterie board fixings, sandwiches and more based on Italian recipes passed down from generations.
Mandi Hopkins is the manager of Risi Pizzeria & Italian Cuisine, but worked at Napa Grocery before the move.
“I came with the place. Business has been good, we’ve doubled in sales,” said Hopkins. “We have a Roman-style dough that I don’t think anybody else in the area has. Our New York dough is really good, too.”
Everything is made from scratch at the restaurant, like the hummus in the to-go display case, and new specials are coming in 2025.
“We like feeding family. If you come in, the experience is like a family dinner,” said Hopkins.
Risi Pizzeria & Italian Cuisine is open from at 4350 Boardman Canfield Road in Canfield.
“We will be introducing our Youngstown-style pizza, which is a thicker, rounder pizza. We’re going to be doing a lot of community stuff; I’m not sure about the details and what programs we’re going to donate to or anything just yet,” she said.
