Mahoning Valley long-term care group celebrating 30 years of service to seniors

Employees at a locally-owned network of senior care facilities in North Lima and Hubbard are celebrating 30 years of service in northeast Ohio.

Joseph Cilone is the co-owner and president of Inspira Health Group, founded in 1995 by Tom and Sherrie Nordquist of Columbiana.

“I came on board in 1996 as a registered nurse,” Cilone said. “I’m still great friends with Tom and Sherrie to this day. We actually just had dinner on Friday night.”

Cilone worked his way up from RN supervisor to administrator at the Inspira Health Group Senior Care Facility in Calcutta, then vice president in 2004.

In 2007, he became the president and co-owner of Inspira Health Group alongside Nick Berardino, the chief financial officer.

“Our employees are the ones driving this ship for our company, and as the leaders of this company, we recognize that that’s how we’ve made it 30 years,” said Berardino.

Cilone said he’s stayed at Inspira Health Group for 29 years because he fell in love with the work.

“I really loved the folks that I cared for and got to become part of their lives,” Cilone said. “In the hospital, you might take care of somebody for two or three days, then they go home. Even our skilled patients that do go back home are still here about two weeks. There’s more continuity to the care and I fell in love with this type of care.”

Inspira Health Group has five locations: Calcutta Senior Care Center, Caprice Senior Care Facility in North Lima, Canterbury Healthcare Center in Twinsburg, Elmwood Senior Care Center in Hubbard and Carroll Senior Care Center in Carrollton.

“We have a pretty specialty niche in the market. We offer ventilator care, tracheostomy care and dialysis in-house. We can care for a pretty clinically complex type of patient,” Cilone said. “The environment we have is geared for people to be here long-term. We feel like we’re all one big family, our patients and employees.”

The northeast Ohio senior care network was known as CHC Companies before Cilone said the company re-branded to become Inspira Health Group.

“Crazy as it is, we have a lot of people getting ready to roll around to their thirtieth anniversaries here,” Cilone said. “I think that says a lot about our company. It’s my twenty-ninth anniversary this year, but we have a social worker whose thirtieth anniversary is this year. It’s not a job, it’s a career, and I think that’s what makes us pretty special.”
