Here’s who Mahoning Valley voters chose as their favorite local food truck

Mahoning Matters hosted an online contest to see which food truck vendors are fan favorites, and one vendor came out on top: What’s Grandpa Smokin.

Carl and Sherry Halt started What’s Grandpa Smokin in April of 2018 as a part-time job venture in Columbiana.

“We are a veteran owned and operated company,” Carl said. “We truly enjoy what we do and providing great food for our customers, we are so blessed to be a part of this community and blessed to have such wonderful customers that have become like family to us. We surely couldn’t do this without all of you.”

What’s Grandpa Smokin started selling in a parking lot of the Yarian Brothers Construction Company, which was JDS Landscaping Supply back then.

“What makes us so unique is the many menu options that we have, our dear friends and family that help us out, our very quick service, our smiling faces, our delicious food and our catering abilities for up to 400 people,” Carl said.

He said most customers come back for the fall-off-the-bone ribs and other classic BBQ meals.

“Our brisket has been compared to Texas style brisket,” he said. “Our pulled pork and pulled chicken are moist, flavorful and delicious. We strive to serve the best BBQ we can for all ages to enjoy, we have so many repeat customers that come back for our food.”
