Since 2021, the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation has been redeveloping properties on the south side and throughout Mahoning County.

They’ve been revitalizing Glenwood Avenue in Youngstown by building new affordable duplexes, two of which were completed last fall.

On April 10, YNDC broke ground on the next phase of the Glenwood Avenue project: three energy-efficient duplexes at empty lots.

Youngstown mayor Jamael Tito Brown, sixth ward councilwoman Anita Davis and more project supporters helped YNDC break ground at the new duplexes coming to 3013, 3021 and 3031 Glenwood Avenue.

Each of the duplexes will be split into two apartments with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, along with covered parking.

These units are believed to be the first of their kind for the city of Youngstown with on-site solar power generation making the housing more affordable for tenants.

The vacant lots were acquired from the Mahoning County Land Bank.

The builder for the project is Joe Koch Construction.

The project is made possible through funding support from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh Affordable Housing Program, Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati Affordable Housing Program, Mahoning County and The Raymond John Wean Foundation.

PNC and Premier Bank are serving as the FHLB members and providing the financing.
