Local teacher bringing Ohio’s first Grain & Berry superfood cafe to Canfield
Ohio’s first Grain and Berry is set to open in Canfield during Memorial Day weekend, and a local resident shares how she became part of the healthy-but-tasty superfood franchise.
Geri Zagorianos said she first discovered Grain and Berry’s acai smoothies and food while on vacation.
“There’s nothing like it in our area,” Zagorianos said. “You’re getting healthy and you’re getting delicious without sacrificing either, which I think is really difficult to find around here.”
Grain and Berry first started in Tampa in 2017 and has become a fast-growing franchise with locations in Nashville and Orlando.
“I went back home and I craved it,” Zagorianos said. “I went back to Florida, ate it again and it was just as good. I knew it was something that our community needed – more options and healthier options.”
The cafe is projected to open May 24 at 4259 Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield.
“We offer vegan and gluten free. Everything is plant-based, so it gives our community something new and diverse without sacrificing taste,” she said. “We’re situated right between the Panera and Duncan in Canfield on 224, so it’s a great location.”
Zagorianos is a former teacher at Heartland Christian School before she became a part of the Grain and Berry franchise.
“I taught in the public school system, homes chooled my girls, taught children in China and finished at Heartland,” she said. “Teaching is definitely my passion and I can’t wait to be able to educate my employees and customers in this new season.”
Grain and Berry uses high-quality ingredients in all their bowls, smoothies, juices and flatbreads to help make living healthier lifestyles feel less like a chore, according to Zagorianos.
“We freshly prep everything in the morning so it’s made with clean, fresh food,” Zagorianos said. “We don’t sacrifice taste for quality; you don’t have to sacrifice taste because it’s healthy. This gives you the best of those worlds. We have choices for all different types of eating styles. If you are into fitness, we have, you know, we add protein powder, we have things to boost energy support, like wellness goals.”
