Locally-owned grocery store set to close after 20 years on Western Reserve Road
A locally-owned grocery store announced plans to close its doors, with owners citing construction in their area as a challenge.
There are several Sparkle Markets grocery stores in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The Furrie family are the owners and operators of the Sparkle Market on Western Reserve Road in Beaver Township, which is set to close on March 22.
That’s according to a statement posted on the Furrie Vitullo Sparkle Market Facebook page on March 16.
“The decision follows an extended period of significant road construction and traffic distruptions in the surrounding area have made it increasingly difficult for customers to reach the store,” owners wrote. “Despite efforts to continue operating through these challenges, the location has not been able to sustain the level of business necessary to remain open.”
Owners clarified that the decision to close isn’t a reflection of the employees’ performance at the store.
“Our team at this location has been outstanding,” they wrote. “Their dedication to our customers and the community has meant everything to us, and we are deeply grateful for the work they’ve done every day. We would also like to express our gratitude to our customers and neighbors who have supported the store over the years...and chose to shop with us and made this store part of their daily lives.”
The Sparkle Markets in Cornersburg and Columbiana are staying open, according to the statement.
