Kravitz Deli officially open for business on Penn Avenue in Salem

In January, the owner of Kravitz Deli announced an expansion into Columbiana County, bringing corned beef, homemade wedding soup and signature sandwiches to the area.

Matthew Rydarowicz welcomed customers into Kravitz Deli at 127 Penn Ave. in Salem on June 4.

“It was pretty busy. We did really well. We’ve been doing well since we opened last Thursday, but it was our grand opening on Monday. Everybody was very polite and nice out here, understanding that I’m still low on staff, so they were able to help me out and give me some time to get things situated,” Rydarowicz said.

Inside the new restaurant, Rydarowicz said the renovation process included installing new hoods and new plumbing.

It’s been four years since Rydarowicz purchased the business from Jack Kravitz.

Corned beef is his favorite deli meat, and he described it as a pleasure to carry on the Kravitz tradition, which started in 1939 in Youngstown.
