YOUNGSTOWN — The 35th annual Greater Youngstown Italian Fest gets underway downtown today and runs through Sunday.

The family-oriented festival offers a taste of Italian heritage through musical performances, food from area vendors and restaurants, Italian games and more.

The festival is hosted by the Italian Heritage Foundation of Youngstown, which uses proceeds to offer scholarships to local students and benefit local charities.

The festival schedule is:

  • Today: 11 a.m .to 11 p.m.
  • Saturday: 1 to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday: 11 a.m .to 11 p.m.

Nelly to heat up Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre

YOUNGSTOWN — Rapper Nelly will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre, 201 S. Phelps St.

Tickets, ranging in price from $35 to $89.50, are available at Ticketmaster.com and at the Southwoods Health Box Office inside the Covelli Centre.

Nelly's recordings include "Hot in Herre," "Country Grammar" and "Just a Dream."

River Rock show to feature music of Elton John, Billy Joel

WARREN — Face 2 Face will present a Billy Joel and Elton John tribute show Saturday at River Rock at the Amp, 321 Mahoning Ave. NW.

Ronnie Smith performs as Elton John, and Mike Santoro pays tribute to Billy Joel at 8:30 p.m.

Opening the show at 5:30 p.m. will be Bad JuJu playing music from the '80s, '90s and 2000s.

JCC to host Luau Family Night at Logan Campus

YOUNGSTOWN — The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown will host a Luau Family Night tonight at its Logan Campus, 3245 Logan Way.

The movie "Moana" will be shown, and the star will make an appearance.

There will be crafts and kid-friendly activities at 7:15 p.m., and the movie will begin at 8.

The event is free for JCC members and $5 for nonmembers.

OH WOW! to host Science of Brewing 2021

YOUNGSTOWN — OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children's Center for Science and Technology will host a fundraising party for adults tonight.

Science of Brewing 2021 will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at 15 Central Square.

Tickets cost $75, or $350 for a block of six.

Boardman High School musicians to wash cars to raise funds

BOARDMAN — Students in the Boardman High School band and orchestra programs will be washing all makes and models of cars Saturday.

The car wash fundraiser will be along the north side of Boardman High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students are selling wash coupons for $5, but donations will be accepted from anyone without a coupon.

Throughout the day, the Boardman High School drum line will entertain patrons.

OSU Summer Student Send-Off Picnic RSVPs due Sunday

COLUMBIANA — The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Columbiana County will hold its annual Summer Student Send-Off Picnic on Aug. 12 at Firestone Park's Pavilion 4.

Participants are asked to RSVP by Sunday to Matt Yerkey at matthewyerkey63@gmail.com.

All alumni and their families, incoming freshmen and current OSU students and their families, as well as friends of OSU, are invited. Nonstudent adults are asked for a donation to offset event costs.

After a meet and greet at 6 p.m., a catered dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. OSU students in attendance will be entered in a drawing for a $500 door prize.
