Education notebook: Junior Achievement partners with Youngstown State for business competition
The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University and Junior Achievement of Eastern Ohio will host the fourteenth annual JA Titan Business Challenge from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. March 9 in Williamson Hall.
Students from Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties will increase their understanding of running a business in a competitive, high-tech marketplace.
Fourteen teams of students will use an interactive online business simulation called JA Titan that offers a unique way for local high school junior and senior students to learn what it takes to compete in the marketplace and to run a successful business.
Potential Development to hold varsity vs. alumni basketball game on March 11
Potential Development will hold its Varsity vs. Alumni basketball game at noon March 11 at Valley Christian Schools, 4401 Southern Blvd., Youngstown.
“This annual game pairing our alumni with our Varsity team is the highlight of the basketball season. Our students have several surprises that they have been planning for the audience and alumni, and they are looking forward to a very competitive game,” said Sports Coordinator Debra Goshorn.
Thirteen alumni have committed to participating.
The game is free to attend.
Sebring students explore Egypt’s history, culture
Sebring McKinley sixth- and seventh-grade students recently welcomed a guest speaker with insights into the culture and ancient history of Egypt.
Ahmed Elkhafif, an area resident who grew up in Egypt, spoke to sixth-grade students about ancient Egypt.
Elkhafif also spoke to seventh-grade Social Studies students about Islamic Civilization.
