Suspect in fatal shooting in Hermitage turns himself in

Multiple police departments searched for a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Charles Carr from Hermitage.

According to reports, Carr was shot at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday in the 2000 block of Shadyside Drive in Hermitage.

Hermitage police officers found him with multiple gunshot wounds, reports indicated, adding Carr was transported by EMS but later died at the hospital.

How Hermitage police sought suspect Zechariah Sewell

Police released the name and description of the person they believed responsible for shooting Carr.

Hermitage police obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, 27-year-old Zechariah Sewell.

Sewell turned himself in at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Hermitage Police Department with his lawyer.

“I am immensely proud of the persistent efforts by our officers and criminal investigators to see that Sewell was taken into custody promptly and safely. I would also like to thank the surrounding police agencies who assisted in searching for Sewell, including the Sharon and Farrell Police Departments, as well as the Mercer County District Attorney’s Office,” said Chief Adam Piccirillo.

After turning himself in, Sewell was arraigned and taken to Mercer County Jail on a $1 million bond.

“I am confident that family and friends of the victim, Charles Carr, are likewise grateful; our thoughts and prayers remain with them in their time of mourning,” Piccirillo said.
