The Mahoning County Dog Warden is feeding and caring for 80 animals in their shelter right now, and they need the public’s help to find new homes.

This week, the county dog pound is at total capacity.

Shelter at full capacity

The employees at the dog warden want to help as many animals as possible to find new homes.

They said they saw an influx of local pet owners looking to bring home a new animal during COVID-19 when their schedules were more open.

But then, when their owners had to return to work, it became difficult for animals to adjust to the new situation, resulting in destructive behavior and stress for parents.

Some of these animals are being put back up for adoption.

Adopting a new pet

The county dog warden’s office seeks people to adopt the new dogs.

Anyone looking to adopt can visit their Facebook page full of adoptable dogs and apply online.

If you are interested in meeting any of them, please email ssabol@mahoningcountyoh.gov to request an application. Once approved, the dog warden will call you for a meet and greet.

Here’s some advice caring for a new pet.
