Boardman-based Aqua Ohio recognized for bringing safe water to citizens of New Franklin

Aqua Ohio, a branch of Essential Utilities, is currently the state’s largest regulated water and wastewater utility, serving about 500,000 customers in 19 counties.

Recently, the organization helped bring clean, reliable water to New Franklin by installing a four-mile-long water main.

The project will also install 52 new fire hydrants and 113 valves in the Summit County area.

The annual national award recognizes projects funded by Drinking Water State Revolving Funds

“Bringing water to our city is a real game changer for New Franklin,” said Mayor Paul Adamson. “We’re grateful for the team that made it possible.”

According to Aqua Ohio, this equips 249 homes in New Franklin with the option to stop using private wells in favor of centralized, regulated service. The lines are all linked back to a main plant in Massillon.

“Everyone deserves clean, safe, reliable water; but costs and regulatory expectations make that goal more difficult for small systems to maintain,” said Aqua Ohio’s Area Manager Keith Nutter. “When Aqua shows up, things get better; and I’m personally proud of the work we’ve done to connect these 14 small systems who can count on us to provide operational excellence for decades to come.”

Aqua Ohio project was recognized with an award by United States EPA as an AQUARIUS program award recipient.

The annual national award recognizes projects funded by Drinking Water State Revolving Funds for exceptional focus on community partnerships.
