Hundreds of Mahoning County students attend educational mock crash
According to the Canfield Police Department, 800 high school students recently gathered to participate and learn from a mock crash demonstration at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Students came from various schools in the nearby community, such as Canfield Local Schools and Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.
The goal of the presentation was to prioritize safety for these new drivers behind the wheel during the prom season.
The demonstration was coordinated by Canfield Police Department, alongside MCCTC School Resource Officer Tim Coler, OSP Lt. Eric Brown from the Canfield Post and the Mahoning County Safe Communities group.
Students safely simulated a crash using junk cars from Boardman Towing and emergency crews with Cardinal Joint Fire District participated as actors in the demonstration.
Students from MCCTC participated by incorporating special effects makeup for the officers participating as “crash victims.”
“We hope the event brings awareness to the dangers of driving impaired and/or distracted, especially with prom season upon us,” the department said.
