More than 100 mental health professionals gathered last week in Mahoning Valley for an addiction treatment conference, co-hosted by Meridian Healthcare and Association for Ohio Addiction Professionals.

The attendance “exceeded expectations across the board,” according to organizers at the event which took place at the Trumbull Kent State University branch in Warren.

“Teaming up to provide learning opportunities for healthcare professionals is crucial,” said Lawrence Moliterno, president and CEO of Meridian HealthCare. “This is another way for treatment to be available to individuals in the region as they begin or continue their wellness journeys.”

The conference featured speakers like Lori Criss, director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction, and Lynne Lyon, Ohio Deputy Director of Behavioral Health Policy.

Attendees also heard expert advice from local doctors, professors, therapists and Marc Lee Shannon, singer-songwriter and certified peer recovery supporter.

Shannon wrote The Sober Chronicles: My Journey of Discovery Along the Path to Recovery, reflecting on his life as a musician.

Professionals who went to the conference earned up to five and a half credit hours.
