Pittsburgh Steelers open season as underdogs vs. San Francisco 49ers
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers open as underdogs in their first season opener at home in nine years. As the San Francisco 49ers come to town in Week 1, the Steelers will hold a three-point disadvantage to the NFC powerhouse at BetOnline.ag.
The Week 1 matchup could feature the first matchup between the first quarterback and the last quarterback taken in the 2022 NFL Draft. If Brock Purdy is the starter for the 49ers in Week 1, Kenny Pickett will face off against the only QB of his class to win a playoff game last season.
This will be the Pittsburgh Steelers first home season opener since 2014
The Steelers haven’t hosted a season opener since 2014 when they defeated the Cleveland Browns. The North Shore is bound to be packed, with tailgates lining the parking lots and jerseys covering the city.
San Francisco is coming off an NFC Championship appearance and brings a loaded offense with Deebo Samuels, George Kittle and others, packed with a defense that includes reigning Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa.
The Steelers enter year two with a new quarterback and are regarded as having one of the best offseasons this spring.
Three points isn’t a bad opening line. As maybe as they should, the Steelers start the season as underdogs.
