How the Mahoning Valley is marking Memorial Day
This year, Memorial Day is celebrated May 29 in the United States to honor veterans who died during service.

Memorial Day: Mahoning County
Sovereign Grace Chapel is hosting a Memorial Day picnic for the community on May 26 at 6 p.m.
Austintown’s Memorial Day parade at 10 a.m. at Marc’s grocery store on Mahoning Avenue and ends at Fitch High School
Boardman Memorial Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. starting at the intermediate school on Market Street and will proceed north to US Route 224, then head east to Boardman Township Park
Canfield’s Memorial Day services start at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Plaza Gazebo on the Village Green before the procession to Canfield East Cemetery
Poland residents, the annual parade starts at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Post 15 on 35 Cortland St. to Poland Riverside Cemetery
Memorial Day: Trumbull County
- Brookfield Township’s parade begins at 10 a.m. on Grove Street to the cemetery for an observance after the parade
Then at 12:30 p.m., participate in the renaming of Trumbull County No. 10 Bridge on Warren Sharon Road, east of Yankee Run Golf Course, as Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge, according to Joe Pinchot with News on the Green
- Check out the Rotary Club of Champion Memorial Day Parade and service at 9 a.m.. The parade starts at St. William Church and will cross over Rt. 305 where the parade will end at the Champion Township Cemetery North entrance.
Memorial Day: Columbiana County
- Salem’s Memorial Day breakfast starts at 10 a.m. at Perry Lodge No. 185 from the Village Green to Grandview Cemetery.
Memorial Day: Mercer County
- Mercer Memorial Day 500 starts with a 5K Race at 8:30 a.m. and ends with a concert at 6 p.m. featuring Chris Higbee
According to the United States Post Office, there won’t be any mail delivered Monday, but all services will be back to regular schedule on Tuesday.
All post offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
