Columbiana ranks fourth on list of Ohio counties with highest percentage of veterans

There are roughly 19 million veterans living in the U.S., according to data from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Stacker compiled a list of the top 50 counties in 2022 with the highest percentage of veterans in Ohio using data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Do a lot of veterans live in Columbiana, Trumbull and Mahoning counties?

According to the list compiled by Stacker researchers, Columbiana County ranks fourth for the highest percentage of citizens who are veterans, while Trumbull County is number 21 on the list.

Over ten percent of residents are veterans, an estimate of 8,458 residents.

Stacker broke down how many veterans in Columbiana County served in each war, starting with World War Two.

  • World War Two: 204
  • Korean War: 545
  • Vietnam War: 3,084
  • Gulf War (Aug. 1990 to Aug. 2001): 1,728

    Gulf War (Sept. 2002 or later): 1,161

In Trumbull County, about nine percent of the population identifies as a veteran, approximately 14,546 veterans.

  • World War Two: 426
  • Korean War: 1,367
  • Vietnam War: 5,903
  • Gulf War (Aug. 1990 to Aug. 2001): 1,931

Mahoning County was not on the list for top 50 counties for most veterans living in Ohio.

Which counties in Ohio have the most highest percentage of veterans?

Columbiana County ranked fourth out of 50 counties, but what are the three counties with the most veterans living there?

Research by Stacker using census data in Ohio showed Noble County is third with 1,229 veterans, about 10.5 percent of the population.

Clark County is second, with 11,087 veterans, 10.7 percent of the population, while the top spot went to Greene County.

Census data shows 15,544 veterans living in Greene, almost 12 percent of the entire county’s population.
