Grohl’s band, The Foo Fighters, was in central Ohio Sunday night to close out the Sonic Temple music festival in Columbus.

“It’s nice to be back in Ohio,” Grohl told the audience. “I like this place. I was born (in Warren). All of my family is from Ohio. They are from Niles, Youngstown and Warren. I spent much time here through the years and have some beautiful friends.”

Emotional time for The Foo Fighters

Sunday’s concert was emotional for the band, marking its first shows with new drummer Josh Freese after the death of long-time drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died March 25, 2022, from cardiac arrest while touring in Colombia.

“Tonight is different than before for lots of reasons,” Grohl said. “These songs here have a new feeling and a new meaning.”
