Need an updated COVID-19 booster or flu shot?

Trumbull County Combined Health District (TCCHD) has multiple free vaccine clinics coming up this week.

To help encourage participation, the first 20 people who come to each clinic will get a free $25 Giant Eagle gift card (1 per visit).

They’re offering updated COVID-19 booster shots, also called mRNA bivalent vaccinations, and flu vaccinations. Participants are asked to bring their COVID-19 vaccination card with you.

How do you know if you’re eligible for a booster?

If you’ve had your COVID-19 vaccination and haven’t gotten a booster yet, the CDC says getting a single dose of the mRNA bivalent is safe to help prevent infection.

“Evidence is now available that most of the U.S. population five years of age and older have antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, either from vaccination or infection that can serve as a foundation for the protection provided by the bivalent vaccines,” said Dr. Peter Marks, Ph.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research.

“COVID-19 continues to be a very real risk for many people, and we encourage individuals to consider staying current with vaccination, including with a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine,” Dr. Marks continues. “The available data continue to demonstrate that vaccines prevent the most serious outcomes of COVID-19, which are severe illness, hospitalization, and death.”

Here is information from TCCHD that breaks down who is eligible for the boosters. Call your healthcare provider or visit the TCCHD website for more explanation.

  • Patients ages six to 64 who have had one or more monovalent doses but no bivalent dose can receive the bivalent vaccine if at least two months have passed since their last dose. Those in that age group who have already received a bivalent dose are not eligible for a second bivalent dose.
  • Anyone that received a bivalent vaccine and is immunocompromised should receive a second bivalent vaccine spaced two months after their previous dose. Healthcare providers may administer additional doses.
  • Individuals over 65 who have received one bivalent dose may receive a second if it has been at least four months since their last dosage.
  • TCCHD has COVID bivalent vaccine for six months and older. A parent must accompany all children under the age of 18 years.
