OH WOW! co-founder Gloria Jones dies at 89
The co-founder of the OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology in Youngstown has died.
Gloria Jones, 89, died in her sleep on June 1 after a brief illness.
Gloria Jones had a rich history with OH WOW!
The couple founded OH WOW! in 2011.
“Gloria is as much of the fabric of this place as the support beams in the walls,” said OH WOW! Executive Director Marvin Logan. “It was her endorsement that led the organization to improve our storytelling around the impact of our work. While her passing deeply saddens us, we are so fortunate to have been allowed to honor her while she was with us. We will be doing special recognitions soon to honor Roger and Gloria’s family meaningfully. We would not be here without them; their story is worthy of acknowledgment.”
“Gloria Jones leaves a legacy that will continue inspiring future generations to embrace the wonders of science and technology,” said OH WOW! Board Chairman Wiley Runnestrand said. “Her vision, dedication, and commitment to the community will be deeply missed.”
Gloria Jones was active in the Mahoning Valley
Jones was active in and served on the Board of Associated Neighborhood Centers, Citizens League of Greater Youngstown and was an officer of the Friends of the Main Public Library.
She was also active with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown. She was a founding member of the Festival of the Arts which ran for 17 years.
Jones and her husband were very interested in education. They supported OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology, backed the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley by adopting the Success After Six program at the MLK School.
