Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center earns national accreditation
According to Mercy Health, the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center has been granted accredited status by a national organization.
The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) approved the Joanie Abdu center for accreditation after conducting patient surveys, whose results showed that the facility provides quality care and treatment plans using multi-disciplinary teams to patients in the area.
The American College of Surgeons oversees the accreditation for the country.
Dr. Nancy Gantt is a breast surgeon and breast program lead at the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center with Mercy Health in Youngstown.
She explains how the accreditation demonstrates the dedication to “high-quality, comprehensive and compassionate care delivered right here in the Mahoning Valley.”
“[We] are committed to providing our patients with high-quality, compassionate cancer care close to home” says Dr. Gantt. “From ultrasounds, MRIs, 3D mammograms and breast molecular imaging to bone density scans, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, everything our patients need is available in one place and their care is led by an interdisciplinary team composed of radiologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, surgeons and genetic counselors. Breast cancer is complex, and this approach enables us to analyze and develop treatment plans that capture multiple perspectives to best care for each patient’s specific needs.”
According to Mercy, patients receiving care at an NAPBC-accredited center like the Joanie Abdu Center also can access information on clinical trials and new treatment options not regularly available at other facilities.
