Two sentenced in Trumbull court on drug charges

The following cases were handled Wednesday in Judge Sean O’Brien’s Common Pleas Courtroom:

* Corey D. McDew, 31, a prison inmate at Northeast Ohio Correctional Center, pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree felony of attempted aggravated possession of drugs and was given a six-month prison term to run consecutive to his current two to three-year aggregate sentence for felonious assault and harassment out of Stark County. While McDew was an inmate at Trumbull Correctional Institution in Warren in December 2021, a search of his cell netted 4.59 grams of a substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.

* Christopher A. Shiflett, 34, an inmate at Belmont Correctional Institution, pleaded guilty to third-degree aggravated possession of drugs charge and was sentenced to an additional nine months in prison. Shiftlett was found with drugs while a prisoner at a Trumbull County facility in January 2022. Shiflett is serving an aggregate five-and-a-half to seven-and-a-half-year sentence for convictions from Mahoning and Columbiana counties.
