Residents at Paisley House Assisted Living in Youngstown hold bingo benefit for East Palestine community
Residents at an assisted living facility in Youngstown use their weekly bingo tradition to help other Ohioans.
Directors at a weekly staff meeting at Paisley House Assisted Living Facility in Youngstown suggested doing something to help the village of East Palestine as residents are still recovering economically from the train derailment. They wanted to plan something also to involve the Paisley House residents.
Why residents were eager to help East Palestine residents in need
Etta Rae Finley, activities director at the around-the-clock care facility, said the residents were eager to help.
Since it’s their favorite activity, the residents donated six weeks’ worth of bingo winnings to help with recovery efforts in East Palestine after the train derailment last February.
Their winnings were set aside after each game, and they could mail a $102 check to the East Palestine Rotary Club.
Jill Cox, director of Paisley House, is Vice President of the Boardman Rotary and suggested the check be sent there.
According to Cox and Finley, the residents were happy to contribute to this cause as they remained knowledgeable about the current news of the greater Youngstown area and sympathized with the people in East Palestine.
