Summer manufacturing camp launches at OH WOW!
Sixty students from fifth to eighth grade in Mahoning and Trumbull counties will take part in a summer manufacturing camp which starts today at the OH WOW! Center for Science & Technology.
The program is designed for students to learn about manufacturing, teamwork, and local production facilities.
How many summer manufacturing camps are being held around Ohio?
This year, there are at least 36 camps in 26 counties through the state.
“Ohioans are proud of our state’s long manufacturing history. To keep up that tradition, we must get a new generation interested in our changing manufacturing sector. That’s what these camps are all about,” U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said in a press release. “The camps will help students across our state learn about manufacturing jobs right here in Ohio and the proud history of opportunities our manufacturing sector has created for their parents and grandparents.”
Youngstown’s 11th year for the summer manufacturing camp
OH WOW! Center for Science & Technology Executive Director Marvin Logan said this is the 11th year the center has been involved with the camp.
“This has been our marquee program since its inception, To provide the Valley’s youth with the best and brightest of today’s manufacturing innovation is our pride and joy,” Logan said. “It is also critically important to the continued growth and vibrancy as a community. We have continued to introduce new programming that features Ohio’s evolution in Tech Manufacuring, Innovation, and Design that will help our region play a major role in Ohio’s development into the Silicon Heartland.”
