West Park Drive from Old Furnace Road to Lily Pond Drive to be closed for a week
West Park Drive from Old Furnace Road to Lily Pond Drive will be closed for resurfacing work starting July 24.
Work to be completed during this closure includes installation of new asphalt drive lanes, aggregate shoulders and pavement markings. Funding for the project is provided by the OPRA/ODOT Park District Drive Improvement Program and Mill Creek MetroParks.
The project is expected to last approximately one week, barring any inclement weather that would delay or prolong the anticipated project schedule and extend the closure.
Mosquito Spraying to be Conducted in Mahoning County
Mahoning County Public Health received 2023 Ohio EPA Mosquito Control Grant Funding for mosquito control measures.
One of those measures includes spraying for adult mosquito control.
Spraying will help reduce the population of mosquitos and help prevent the spread of mosquito borne diseases such as West Nile Virus.
Adult Mosquito Control will occur today in the following limited areas within Mahoning County: Canfield Fairgrounds, Mill Creek Park, Coy Park, Boardman Township Park, Austintown Township Park, Poland Township Park, Poland Village Park and Canfield Township Park.
Spraying will be performed between dusk and dawn and if rainy or windy conditions are present, then spraying will be postponed.
If you have any beehives in these areas, please call our Environmental Health Division (330-270-2855) so spraying can be avoided in those locations.
Please remember that many mosquito problems are the result of breeding sites around the home. Spraying is not effective in controlling the breeding sites of mosquitos.
Canfield teen wins title at All-American Soap Box Derby
Parker Lame of Canfield, 13, won the world title in the Super Stock division at the 85th FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron on Saturday.

The following ODOT construction projects are anticipated to affect highways in Mahoning County next week. All outlined work is weather permitting.
Interstate 76 & Bailey Road interchange improvements, Jackson Township
Bailey Road at I-76 has various lane restrictions. Estimated completion, November 2023.
Interstate 680 lighting improvements, Youngstown
I-680 between Indianola Ave. and Shirley Rd. is reduced to two lanes in each direction. Estimated completion, mid-November 2023.
U.S. 224 & State Route 170 signal replacements in the Village of Poland & Poland Township
U.S. 224 between Pennsylvania Ave. and Riverside Drive has nightly lane restrictions between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. SR 170 between Johnson Place and North Lima Road has various lane restrictions during non-peak travel times. Estimated completion, late October 2023.
State Route 14 culvert replacement, Goshen Township
SR 14 between SR 534 and SR 165 is closed through Thursday evening, July 21. The detour is SR 165 to SR 534.
State Route 14 culvert replacement, Green Township
Beginning July 31, SR 14 just east of Egypt Road will be closed though mid-August. The detour will be U.S. 62 to SR 165 to SR 46.
State Route 170 resurfacing, Youngstown
SR 170/Midlothian Blvd., between Glenwood Ave. and I-680 has occasional lane restrictions. Estimated completion, early August 2023.
State Route 165 & 534 resurfacing, Beaver, Green & Goshen Townships
The following routes have various lane restrictions for resurfacing:
- SR 534 between the Columbiana County line to just south of Calla Rd.
- SR 165 between SR 14 and SR 46.

Trumbull County weekly construction update
The following ODOT construction projects are anticipated to affect highways in Trumbull County next week. All scheduled work is weather permitting.
State Route 46 drainage repairs, Weathersfield Township
Beginning Monday, July 31, SR 46 between Gilbert St. and Prospect Dr. will have various lane restrictions. Estimated completion, mid-October 2023.
State Route 46 culvert replacement, Greene Township
Beginning Monday, July 17, SR 46 between SR 88 and SR 87 is NOW OPEN.
State Route 87 culvert replacement, Greene Township
Beginning Monday, July 24, SR 87 between SR 45 and SR 46 will be closed through Thursday, July 28. The detour will be SR 45 to SR 88 to SR 46.
Columbiana County weekly construction update
The following construction projects are anticipated to affect highways in Columbiana County in the coming weeks. All outlined work is weather permitting.
U.S. Route 30 resurfacing in East Liverpool
Work is underway to resurface a four-mile section of U.S. Route 30 through the city of East Liverpool to the EXIT for State Route 170. During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. The completion date is October 31, 2023.
State Route 7 southbound slide repair near Wellsville
Work is underway to repair a slide along the southbound lanes of State Route 7 near Wellsville. During construction one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times with a 12-foot width restriction. The completion date is July 31, 2023.
State Route 14 culvert replacement near Washingtonville
Work is underway to replace a culvert located just east of Washingtonville. During construction, traffic will be maintained via temporary traffic signals. The completion date for the project is November 30, 2023.
State Route 45 closure
State Route 45 is closed three miles north of State Route 7 for 45 days for a culvert replacement project. The detour is SR 7 north to U.S. 30 west, U.S. 30 west back to SR 45, and reverse. The completion date is July 30, 2023.
State Route 39 (Pennsylvania Avenue) culvert replacement in the city of East Liverpool
Work is underway to replace a culvert along State Route 39 between Parkway Avenue and Virginia Avenue in the city of East Liverpool. During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained via temporary traffic signals. The completion date is September 30, 2023.
East Lincoln Street Connector Trail Project
Work is underway to install a bike and pedestrian trail along State Route 154 in Lisbon. Throughout the project, traffic may be maintained via flaggers when necessary. The completion date is September 30, 2023.
City of Salem - State Route 344 (Franklin Avenue) closure
State Route 344 (Franklin Avenue) is closed to traffic for 190 days for a project to rehabilitate concrete pavement via repair and replacement along a stretch of Franklin Avenue (State Route 344) from South Lincoln Avenue to Southeast Blvd. Non-local traffic is detoured via Southeast Blvd. to State Street, State Street to Lincoln Avenue., and reverse. The completion date for the entire project is October 31, 2023.
Preventative maintenance project on State Route 164
Project involves chip sealing a nearly five-mile stretch from Gavers to Lisbon. Flaggers will be present to maintain traffic during construction. The completion date is September 30, 2023.
Robb Blasdel announces funding for Columbiana County Drug Task Force
State Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel (R-Columbiana County) said delegated funding for the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office will be used for their local drug task force in order to mitigate drug trafficking and push for substance use awareness and prevention.
The grant from the RecoveryOhio program will provide $39,925 in funds that comes from the previous state budget.
“I have been to our local drug force’s facility and met with our County Sheriff’s team to discuss their ongoing efforts to reduce drug crimes impacting our communities – this funding will be put to good use to make that happen,” Robb Blasdel said.
Back in March, Robb Blasdel met with local law enforcement to discuss the pertinent issue of the Columbiana County Drug Task Force. Specifically, it was emphasized how important it is to keep drugs off the streets.
Robb Blasdel has asserted this is a top priority by investing into programs and facilities that support these efforts moving forward.
All-Ohio State Fair Band and the All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir announced for 2023 Ohio State Fair
The All-Ohio State Fair Band and the All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir have announced their membership for the 2023 Ohio State Fair.
Throughout the 12 days of the Fair, the Band and Choir will perform nearly 200 times at various locations throughout the Fair.
