Sharon man sentenced to nine months in Trumbull County court for passing bad check

The Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office provided a list of indictments, court pleas and sentencing in some Trumbull County cases.

The following actions were taken Aug. 8 before Judge Ronald J. Rice of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:

  • James Newton, 69, of Sharon, Pa., was sentenced to nine months in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of passing bad checks. The case involved Newton passing a check for $5,054 from a closed account to pay for a used Chevrolet Equinox, prosecutors said. The offense took place Dec. 2, 2022, and was investigated by the Brookfield Police Department.
  • Richard D. Williams, 34, of Logan Gate Road, Liberty Township, was sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to charge of escape. Williams, who was released from prison in June 2023, after being convicted of complicity to robbery in 2019 in Trumbull County, failed to report to his parole officer, prosecutors said.
  • Timothy Kennedy, 37, of Adelaide Avenue SE, in Warren, pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and grand theft of a firearm. He will be sentenced after undergoing a background investigation conducted by probation officers. He faces a possible two to 12-year sentence. Kennedy was arrested Feb. 18, 2023, by Niles police after he was found trespassing in a woman’s home. A gun was also stolen from that residence, prosecutors said.

The following action was taken Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, before Judge Cynthia Rice of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:

  • Peighton Bishop, 26, of Newton Falls pleaded guilty to a charge of escape. Bishop will undergo a background investigation conducted by probation officers prior to sentencing. He could face a prison term of six months to 12 months. Bishop, who was accused of not reporting to his parole officer in March of 2022, was taken into custody.

The following action was taken Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023, before Judge Andrew D. Logan of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:

  • Sean Easterling, 31, pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony. Easterling was found with a substance later identified as methamphetamine during a March 3, 2021, traffic stop conducted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He will be sentenced after undergoing a background report compiled by probation officers. He could face as much as three years in prison.
