The following action was taken on Wednesday before Judge Cynthia Rice of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

  • Jeffrey Green, 35, of Niles, was sentenced to an indefinite prison term of three to four–and-a-half years after pleading guilty on May 31 of burglary, attempted felonious assault and kidnapping. Niles police arrested Green after a Nov. 30, 2022, incident on Olive Street which involved a 21-year-old woman.
  • Joseph C. Gallo, 52, of Rome, Ohio, received a five-year basic probation after pleading guilty April 26 to a charge of aggravated assault. Gallo , who will serve his probation in Ashtabula County, is a businessman who was charged in a March 31, 2022, incident in Trumbull County involving his son. As part of the probation, Gallo was ordered not to have contact with the victim.

Here’s what happened during the Wednesday afternoon sessions in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:

  • In a pretrial hearing for Patricia Zarlingo, 28, of Youngstown, charged with capital murder in the jan. 19, 2023, fatal house fire on Nevada Avenue NW in Warren that killed a 16-year-old Warren girl, it was agreed by attorneys on both sides – and signed off by Common Pleas Judge Sean O’Brien, that Zarlingo will be observed by the defense mitigation attorney interacting with her children during a period at the Trumbull County jail. Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Becker explained to the judge that children are not allowed to visit inmates at the jail, but because of the circumstances of evidences needed for an upcoming mitigation hearing if the death penalty comes into play at trial, this interview would be needed. Arrangements will be made with jail staff to allow this. Another pre-trial to rule on further motions in the case is scheduled for Oct. 18 before Judge O’Brien.
