Youngstown City Schools hiring bus drivers, dispatchers

It’s almost time to get kids back to school, which for some will mean getting them safely on the school bus and meeting them at the correct stop.

If you’re looking for a job, consider helping get students back and forth safely from school by working in the Youngstown City School District transportation department.

What jobs are open at YCSD transportation?

Multiple positions are available in the department, including drivers, substitute dispatchers and aides.

The applications will be open online until all the positions are filled.

According to YCSD, they’re looking for three van drivers to work in the district, as well as multiple bus drivers.

According to the district, bus drivers must be at least 21 years old and able to start on an hourly part-time training session for six weeks at a rate of $24 an hour.

Bus driver candidates will train to obtain their Ohio class B Commercial Driver License (C.D.L.) with P and S endorsements in order to be considered for a future full-time position.

Candidates will work as a trainees for six paid hours per day, five days per week for 30 working days including one nighttime session.

Once a driver is fully licensed through the six-week training program and approved to work, the driver will need to commit to driving for YCSD for a minimum of 18 months, or pay a fee of $2,500.

Experienced mechanics also needed

Mechanics will work on buses and vans needing repair in the district.

According to the job description, applicants have to have a Commercial Driver License (C.D.L.) or obtain one within 90 days.

Applicants will also need an Automotive Service Excellence.(A.S.E.) certification for this position. If you get the job and don’t have the A.S.E. certification, you’ll need to get it within six months of the hiring date.

They should also have “an expertise in vehicular equipment repair” and some experience in body work and welding.
