The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington at noon Aug. 28 at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane.

Peter Geffen, founder and executive director of KIVUNIM, and founder of the Abraham Joshua Heschel School in NYC, will speak.

Geffen served as a civil rights worker for Dr. King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in Orangeburg, S.C.

He played several historic roles at King’s funeral, including accompanying Dr. King’s dear friend, Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel throughout the funeral procession.

He has remained active in social justice causes his entire life, from Civil Rights to the movement against the War in Vietnam, to Arab-Jewish reconciliation in the Middle East, and many others.

The program is free but registration is required by Aug. 21. A light lunch is included.

Contact Nancy Sentelik at nsentelik@jewishyoungstown.org or 330-746-3251 ext. 108 to register.
