4 things to do this week in Mahoning Valley
Looking for something to do after work or a fall-filled fun event for the whole family this week?
Here are our top picks:
McDonough fall art exhibit behind-the-scenes tour
Have you ever visited an art museum and wondered about the creator’s inspiration behind the piece?
The #notwhite collective is made up of 13 women artists who use non-individualistic, multi-disciplinary art to make their stories visible.
Visitors will get to ask questions and get involved while the artists discuss how artwork serves as a powerful tool for change.
Visit the McDonough Museum of Art website for information on other fall exhibitions currently on display.
Lunch with Barbara Brothers and Mahoning Valley Historical Society
Bring your lunch and learn in the Tyler History Center for Bites and Bits of History, sponsored by the John and Loretta Hynes Foundation.
At noon on Thursday, join the Mahoning Valley Historical Society and a Youngstown League of Women Voters member Barbara Brothers for an hour-long presentation at lunch in the Thomas Ballroom.
You’ll get to learn about the 90 years of local League of Women Voters history, as well as their mission to ensure women and others always have a voice in politics and access to necessary information to exercise their right to vote.
The Tyler History Center is located at 325 W. Federal St. in Youngstown.
Canfield Family Fun Night
Visit the Canfield Green at 6 - 9 p.m. Thursday for live music, food and kid-friendly activities, all part of Canfield Family Fun Night.
Listen to live music performed by acoustic duo from Columbiana, the Conkle Brothers.
Grab a bite from vendors including Birdfish Brewing, Cheezelouize and Smoke Worx Street Cuisine.
Check out the newly-renovated gazebo at the Canfield Green and compete in an inflatable obstacle course from Yo Big Bounce.
For updates, check the City of Canfield Facebook.
Watch the LEGO Movie, Little Shop of Horrors
On Friday, there are two options for shows to watch with friends or family.
First, find the blankets and lawn chairs again and head over to Wean Park to watch the LEGO Movie at dusk. It’s one of the wrap-up events for Seven Days of Stem for the Youngstown Regional Science and Technology Festival.
There’s free parking at 229 E Front St in Youngstown.
If you’re looking for something scary, head to opening night of Little Shop of Horrors at Youngstown Playhouse.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. For ticket information, visit The Youngstown Playhouse website.
