REVIEW: Inner Circle Pizza in Canfield has great pizza and service to match

What are the best pizza shops in the greater Mahoning Valley area?

This month, we stopped by Inner Circle Pizza at 6579 Ironwood Blvd. in Canfield.

It’s a great sit-down spot for big or small groups in the Ironwood Commons, with various pizza, pasta, salad, calzone and sandwich options.

The Youngstown State University Block Y flag hung proudly by our table, with that day’s college football game commentary on a TV above the bar and local athletes’ team pictures proudly displayed at the shop entrance.

The sports atmosphere inspired conversation among the journalists in our group about the most memorable interviews we’ve done with local and famous coaches and athletes.

(For me, it was interviewing former YSU president Jim Tressel in his office on campus, obviously.)

What we ordered

Some of my favorite pizza places in northeast Ohio have good pizza but also a wide selection of sides and starters on the menu to go with it, like jo-jo potatoes and, my favorite, mozzarella sticks.

Our group started with two heaps of mozzarella sticks and pretzel bites with cheese, which were devoured happily and quickly.

Then we ordered a cheese pizza for the kids and contemplated the specialty pizzas menu before landing on The Boss, a 14-inch pizza loaded with pepperoni, bacon, ground beef and sausage.

The Boss was a hit, and I was lucky enough to take three leftover slices home to enjoy for lunch the next day, which was still delicious when reheated in the microwave, another testament to a good pizza spot.

Our waitress ensured we had enough to drink while we chatted for a few hours about our previous journalism experience and our favorite part of covering northeast Ohio news.

We were greeted on the way in and out, making us feel right at home.

Stop in any day after 11:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. in the Ironwood Commons in Canfield.

On Friday and Saturday, they’re open until 11 p.m.
