‘In their shoes:’ Rep. McNally to take part in ridealong with Mahoning County caseworkers
State Rep. Lauren McNally has planned a special visit to Mahoning County Children Services in Youngstown this Thursday.
McNally (D-Youngstown) will accompany an agency caseworker to a scheduled home-visit with an agency-involved family, part of the “In Their Shoes” Ridealong campaign.
“My work at the Statehouse is driven by the lived experiences of the people in my district,” said Rep. McNally. “These first-hand experiences allow for learning about the needs of both the workers and the people they serve. I am grateful to our Mahoning County Children Services for putting together this opportunity.”
McNally represents the 59th District, which includes most of Mahoning County.
What is the ‘In Their Shoes’ Ridealong campaign?
McNally will briefly meet members of the Mahoning County Children Services’ Leadership Team before heading out on the a ridealong to get a better understanding of what it’s like “in their [caseworker’s] shoes.”
The goal to provide a unique experience and perspective to help local representatives gain a better understanding of Ohio’s Child Welfare Protection System.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for Rep. McNally to personally observe the valuable and vital work our agency and our casework team provides to our community 365 days a year,” said Richard Tvaroch, executive director of Mahoning County Children Services. “Our caseworkers truly work on the frontline of the child welfare system to help protect our county’s children who are most at-risk of child abuse and neglect.”
