State Route 46 at State Route 82 interchange reopened after overpass bridge addition
A busy Trumbull County interchange that will be undergoing a major reconstruction over the next several years has been reopened after an overpass bridge has been razed.
Ohio Department of Transportation officials has announced the reopening of state Route 46 at the state Route 82 interchange in Howland Township as of Oct. 25.
The roadway had been closed for about a week while crews took down the westbound Route 82 overpass.
State Route 46 connects Howland Center with the busy commercial Eastwood Mall complex in Niles.
The ODOT crews will be turning the busy interchange into a “diverging diamond” – one of three in Ohio – with a scheduled completion date set for sometime in the fall of 2026.
Meanwhile, ODOT warns motorists that the following restrictions and closures will remain in place through November 2024:
- State Route 46 between East Market Street in Howland Center and US Route 422 in Niles has various lane restrictions.
- State Route 82 between Elm Road and Howland Wilson Road has various lane restrictions.
- The ramp from East Market Street to SR 82 eastbound is closed through November 2024.
