According to U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), some significant improvements are coming to the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

Brown said the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation awarded $8 million to the Western Reserve Port Authority.

The Western Reserve Port Authority operates YARS.

“The Western Reserve Port Authority and Youngstown Air Reserve Station are critical to our state and our national defense,” said Brown. “This crucial investment will upgrade infrastructure at the base, allowing YARS to improve training and supporting Ohio service members.”

The $8 million will be used for resurfacing the taxiways at YARS which will help improve deployments and rapid emergency response.

In July, the U.S. Senate passed bipartisan FY2024 National Defense Authorization Act.

Over two million dollars was given to YARS to construct a new emergency response fire station.

“Every day, the men and women stationed at YARS put their lives on the line for our safety, and it is our job to give them the resources they need to succeed,” said Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13).
