Liberty Township man gets 24 months in shooting of woman
The following cases were handled Thursday before Judge Ronald J. Rice of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:
- Isaiah L. Garcia, 23, of Ohio Trail, Liberty Township, was given an 24-month prison sentence in the shooting of a woman at the Liberty home. Garcia pleaded guilty Oct. 5 to third-degree felony of attempted felonious assault and misdemeanor charges of using weapons while intoxicated and domestic violence. On July 4, 2023, Liberty police were called to Garcia’s home where a 23-year-old woman, identified as Garcia’s girlfriend, was shot in the chest. The woman survived as prosecutors said Garcia was playing with the gun and it went off striking the woman. The victim was not into court but turned in a victim’s impact statement. In that statement, Judge Rice stated that wasn’t the first time that Garcia had pointed a gun at her. “He was stupid and he’s gonna pay for that,” Rice told defense attorney Heather Ninni, who had asked for probation in the case.
- Chi Thi Pham, 48, of Canton, Ohio, pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree felony of grand theft linked to a case where silver coins were stolen. Pham, who could face a prison sentence between six and 18 months, will be sentenced after undergoing a background check conducted by probation officers. According to a sheriff’s office report, a Corey Hunt Road, Bristol Township man reported the theft in January saying it occurred in June 2022 at his home. The man said his son’s girlfriend, identified as Phan, was doing house work at the time and blamed her for taking three sugar containers containing about 20 pounds of U.S. quarters that had silver content. Judge Rice says he wants restitution that Pham has to pay the victim to be connected to the market price of an ounce of silver at the time of the conviction. Prosecutors believe this amount would exceed $7,500.
