Youngstown police warn of fraud calls claiming to be from Mahoning Sheriff’s Department

The Youngstown Police Department is alerting residents to a recent phone scam targeting Mahoning Valley residents.

Reports have surfaced regarding fraudulent phone calls from an individual claiming to be Sgt Chad Zubal of the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department.

The caller informs recipients that they have missed a court date and are required to pay a $3,000 fine to avoid arrest.

It is important for the public to be aware that these calls are fraudulent. The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department does not make such demands over the phone for missed court appearances or levy fines in this manner.

The scammers have been using the phone number 330-558-1836.

Residents are strongly advised not to respond to these calls or provide any personal or financial information to the caller and are asked to never share personal information (i.e. social security numbers, bank account details, or payment information) over the phone unless they are certain of the recipient’s identity.
