Farmers National Bank employees in Canfield ring bells for Salvation Army kettles
Roughly 80 Farmers National Bank in Canfield staff members braved the cold Nov. 30 to ring the bells and raise money at the Salvation Army’s famous red kettles.
Volunteers were at 18 sites throughout northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
Donations collected by the Salvation Army during the holiday season help provide gifts to local children and food, shelter, and utility assistance to those in need.
“The holiday season is a time for giving back, and this was an opportunity for Farmers associates to do just that throughout so many of the communities we serve,” said Amber Wallace, Chief Retail and Marketing Officer at Farmers National Bank. “We’re a community bank and so for us, this is what’s it about.”
Dealerships raising money for Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley, Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County
John G. Apostolakis owns local Honda dealerships and uses his profits from car sales throughout December to help out two local food banks.
In December, Apostolakis Honda and Shenango Honda are both donating $50 for every new and used car they sell to two local food banks: Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley and Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County, according to Apostolakis.
Customers buying a new or used car will get to pick which food bank they’d like to purchase their support.
At the end of the month, Apostolakis will present checks to Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley and the Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County.
Apostolakis said while he’s always supported the local food banks, the need is especially significant during the holiday season.
According to the Apostolakis Honda Facebook, you can also bring non-perishable goods into the dealership to be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley. They’re also collecting brand new toy donations for Toys for Tots.
Eastern Gateway Community College’s Vet Tech Program Receives Accreditation
The American Veterinary Medical Association recently accredited the veterinary technician program at Eastern Gateway Community College.
This accreditation will help the college continue to provide vet tech classes and sustain partnerships with organizations like Angels for Animals, where students can have hands-on field experience, according to EGCC.
“We want to extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to this accomplishment — faculty, staff, students, and the local animal-loving community that have a paw print within the program. Their support and dedication to excellence has made this accreditation possible,” said interim president at EGCC John Crooks.
Diane Less, Founder of Angels for Animals, commented on the accreditation.
“At Angels for Animals, we are committed to building a future where skilled and compassionate techs have the training and experience they need to provide care and support for the animals in our community,” she said. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with Eastern Gateway, and providing the educational experiences their students need to become great vet techs.”
