Boardman Emerging Leaders get gifts for children in foster care
Students at Boardman High School filled bags with gifts for 15 local children who are in foster care.
The Emerging Leaders Club is a program about community engagement and students involved help local organizations like United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and Animal Charity.
English teacher Dana Safarek is the advisor for Emerging Leaders.
“More than 45 of our students enthusiastically participated, selecting special craft kits, Lego sets, sports equipment, or new outfits and shoes for the children in need. A standout favorite this year was the oversized stuffed bulldog donning reindeer antlers,” said Safarek.
Maddie Mraz is a senior who has participated in the program for the past two years.
“It’s nice to know these kids are getting things they want and not just the basic necessities. Helping children in need means a lot to me because it allows me to be grateful for the things I have,” said Mraz.

Farmers National Bank appoints Cortland native as director of marketing
Farmers National Bank appointed Julianna Begalla as the new director of marketing.
Begalla has been with Farmers National Bank since the Cortland Bank merged with Farmers last year.
The Cortland native worked at Cortland Bank as the vice president of marketing, communications and investor relations.
The Youngstown State University was recognized in 2019 as a Mahoning Valley Young Professional’s 25 under 35.
In her new role, Begalla will oversee the marketing department and work with Farmers’ chief retail and marketing officer, Amber Wallace, on branding strategies and marketing initiatives that support Farmers growth.
“I am extremely pleased with Julianna’s appointment as she is an accomplished bank marketer with proven experience. The skillset she brings to the table will help broaden our impact across all markets. I look forward to her leading the marketing team with branding, digital and customer experience initiatives,” said Wallace.
