The Boardman Police Department is investigating a burglary after an unknown person broke into a business on Market Street and stole money.

Police responded to a burglary at 6 a.m. Dec. 31 after getting a call from the business owner at 5122 Market St. in Boardman.

The owner said there was an unknown person inside the store seen through security cameras, according to police reports.

The first of several officers from Boardman Police Department saw the glass door had been shattered at the north side of the business.

Reports say the suspect had already left by the time all of the officers arrived, but the owner gave police a copy of that morning’s security camera footage.

According to the report, the camera footage shows the suspect wearing gloves, a hoodie and a winter hat. The unknown suspect also used a sledgehammer to break the glass, but didn’t leave the weapon behind.

The owner told police approximately $900 was stolen in cash and none of the one dollar bills were taken, according to the reports.
