Interim CEO announced for Goodwill
Canfield resident Shelley Murray will be taking over as interim CEO of Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries.
“I’m looking forward to working with the team here at Goodwill in 2024,” Murray said. “I’ve already visited all 10 of our store locations. I’m genuinely excited to work with the entire Goodwill community, as they share enthusiasm for our common mission and purpose.”
Current CEO Ann Phillips is taking a one-year maternity leave and will return in January 2025.
“Shelley brings nonprofit experience and valuable skills to the interim position. I look forward to watching her and the team achieve the goals that have been set for the 2024 year and to facilitate delivery of our mission to the community,” said Phillips.
Before coming to Goodwill, Murray worked in education for 20 years, most recently at Valley Christian Schools.
$29 million coming for East Liverpool State Route 39 project
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, a $29-million federal grant has been given to East Liverpool from the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program.
The money will be used for reconstruction of State Route 39 in East Liverpool.
The project aims to make streets in the area more pedestrian-friendly and safer for transportation of goods on freight lines.
The East Liverpool project is one of 18 county projects in the U.S. receiving federal funding from this program. They’re awarding over $645 million to counties for their transportation and safe mobility projects.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, rural roads and bridges are more dangerous and in worse conditions.
“Rural communities face some of the toughest transportation challenges, yet are often left out of major federal investments, a pattern that we are changing that under President Biden’s leadership,” said Buttigieg. “The grants we’re announcing today will make transportation in rural communities better, safer, and more reliable.”
