Arrest made in Warren Township fire that killed 2
The state fire marshal’s office is investigating a house fire, early on Jan. 7 that killed two people at a Miller Street SW home in Warren Township.
According to reports, Carroll Bruton, 73, was booked into the Trumbull County Jail on two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated arson and two counts of arson.
The alarm was sounded at 3:39 a.m. and by the arrival of the first fire engine on the scene, flames were coming out of the roof of the home located in the 700 block, according to a Warren Township Facebook post.
Neighbors reported two people were inside the structure, and most of the flooring was compromised as crews attached the fire inside.
The report stated that crews could not get to the victims because the roof and second story had collapsed.
By 4:30 p.m. other parts of the home had collapsed and the structure had to be leveled after the victims were removed, the report stated.
The identities of the victims were not released, but the township police announced the arrest of 73-year-old male relative of the victims. The man was arrested shortly after 7 a.m. on Jan. 7.
A dispatch report stated a caller reporting the fire reported seeing someone leave the residence in a vehicle that was headed toward Tod Avenue SW.
Lordstown, Weathersfield, Champion, Newton Falls and Warren city fire departments all assisted township fire crews at the scene.
